Jane Loughman of Toronto-based Monkeys & Parrots, Kyle Bornais from Winnipeg-based Farpoint Films, and Tony Wosk from Toronto and Vancouver-based Middle Child Films have embarked on a musical romance.

Principal photography on The Swearing Jar is currently underway in Toronto and Hamilton, ON. It stars Adelaide Clemens (Rectify), Douglas Smith (Big Little Lies), Patrick J. Adams (Suits), Kathleen Turner (The Kominsky Method), David Hewlett (The Shape of Water) and Jade Ma (Zero Chill).

Directed by Wet Bum‘s Lindsay MacKay from a script by Kate Hewlett, it is adapted from her play of the same name. Loughman, Bornais and Wosk all produce – with Morris Ruskin serving as an executive producer on the project.

The Swearing Jar follows a high school music teacher who throws a birthday concert for her husband, which rekindles memories from their past.

Funded by Telefilm Canada, Ontario Creates, Bell Media’s Crave, the Canadian federal and Ontario & Manitoba provincial tax credits as well as Media Capital Group, the story tracks their relationship and the birth of their child through comedy, music and memory.

Set to be released in Canada by Canadian distributor levelFILM, Metro Films International represents the film worldwide. Additionally, the title will start its festival circuit in fall 2021 with a theatrical release planned for spring 2022.

Music for the project was composed by Tim Williams (Brightburn), with cinematography by Jordan Kennington (Goliath), production design by Diana Magnus (The Invisible Man), costumes by Hanna Puley (Run This Town), and editing by Lindsay Allikas (American Woman). Nicole Hilliard Forde and Matthew Lessall handled casting for the film.
