Catherine Winder’s Vancouver-based multimedia company Wind Sun Sky Entertainment has expanded its executive team with two new hires.

Former Shaftesbury exec Jay Bennett has been tapped as VP of franchise and creative strategy, tasked with creating and overseeing multi-platform strategies around the company’s creative brands. Romney Grant, meanwhile, has been hired as SVP to lead Wind Sun Sky’s business strategies.

Bennett most recently served as SVP creation and innovation at Toronto prodco Shaftesbury, leading its digital strategies. He joined Shaftesbury after its acquisition of Smokebomb Entertainment. Bennett has worked on projects for an array of studios, networks and streamers, including Disney, NBCU, Netflix and BBC.

Grant has more than a decade of experience as an independent producer and served as VP, business affairs at the Entertainment One-owned unscripted prodco Paperny Entertainment.

The new appointments have rounded out Wind Sun Sky Entertainment’s core executive team, headed by CEO and executive producer Winder, the former president of Rainmaker Entertainment, whose credits include The Angry Birds Movie and animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The team includes COO Michael Heard; CFO Darren Battersby; SVP of capital markets Mark MacLean; VP of production Krista Kelloway; development executive Julie Di Cresce; and VP of finance and production accounting Susan Carmichael.

Wind Sun Sky Entertainment operates across several business streams, including content production, mobile apps and toys, to build success franchises. The company is currently in production on a live interactive animated adaptation of the mobile game My Singing Monsters, after already launching a toy line with PlayMonster and Commonwealth.

Under the Wind Sun Sky umbrella is Skybound North, the Canadian division of U.S. animated studio Skybound Entertainment. Among the company’s recent productions is Amazon Prime’s Invincible, based on the Robert Kirkman comic book.
