Launched last fall to allow wider distribution of Canadian features and shorts, as well as some foreign art films, The Toronto International Film Festival Group’s Southern Film Circuit project – which enabled the likes of Le Confessional, Margaret’s Museum and The White Balloon to hit smaller Ontario centres – grossed over $50,000 in the first half of the year.
In tandem with The Northern Film Circuit (run by Cinefest: The Sudbury International Film Festival) on which The Southern circuit is modelled, a gross in excess of $250,000 is anticipated by year’s end. The two programs will have some 40 locations by 1997.
Slated for screens in cities such as Orillia and Sarnia, I Shot Andy Warhol, Land And Freedom, Antonia’s Line and Celluloid Closet are on the circuit lineup.
