Pursuant to the above captioned article, please be advised that the undersigned, as a young Canadian screenwriter, takes exceptional exception to criticism of Michael Kuhn’s (president, PolyGram Filmed Entertainment) refreshing, frank and necessary remarks. The referenced ‘coalition of cultural organizations’ does not represent my beliefs or interests.
I would ask Playback’s readers to consider that these ‘cultural organizations’ often have a vested interest in the status quo and their first concern is always to justify their own existence(s). Their snouts are firmly planted in the public trough.
Kuhn’s stated intention of ‘putting doors in countries’ is what I believe we need, and I personally welcome the opportunity, fresh air and ‘reality check’ that PolyGram (and others) would provide if made welcome here. What are we afraid of?
