News Brief: Art Fest

The 15th international Festival of Films on Art, a competitive North American showcase, runs March 11 to 16 in Montreal with 160 films and videos from 25 countries.

Competition is for the Pratt & Whitney Canada Grand Prize, and the new $10,000 Telefilm Canada prize for best Canadian film.

Canadian entries include the opening-night film, Alain d’Aix’s Anatomie de Tarzan, Luc Cyr and Carl Leblanc’s Lettres a Lucienne, Philippe Baylaucq’s Lodela, Niv Fichman’s Struggle for Hope and Mark Lewis’ Two Impossible Films.

The principal tribute is to New York filmmaker Michael Blackwood who has chronicled some of the century’s greatest artists in 80 documentaries.
