Ken Finkleman is returning to the small screen with the new half-hour series Good Dog, from Shaftesbury Films, which was greenlit by The Movie Network and Movie Central on Monday.
Best known for his Emmy award-winning work on CBC’s The Newsroom, Finkleman will write and star in Good Dog, plugged as a hilarious ‘tragedy’ about a neurotic TV star named George, who dates a gorgeous woman half his age, while his friend Doug bears the brunt of his neuroses. The show is exec produced by Shaftesbury’s Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie, in addition to Finkleman.
The series will begin production later this year. No airdate has been set.
‘Doing a series with The Movie Network and Movie Central is the best it gets in this country,’ commented Finkleman in a release, adding ‘No commercials and a small staff dedicated to the originality and quality of their shows who trust the creators rather than the stock market-like movement of the numbers.’
‘With this original series, audiences are in for a treat. Good Dog is wickedly funny, insightful and intelligent. Ken Finkleman at his finest,’ added Movie Central’s VP of programming Erica Benson.
The Movie Network and Movie Central are owned by Astral Media and Corus Entertainment, respectively.
