The fate of the proposed production services tax credit for foreign producers in b.c. was in the hands of the provincial Treasury Board Feb. 3.
At press time, no one in government or industry was able to confirm rumors that the tax credit – proposed to match the business-scooping Ontario Tax Credit for foreign producers – was even on the agenda, let alone handed its fate.
However, sources suggest that the b.c. tax credit will likely go ahead at 5% of the eligible labor expenses rather than the 11% offered by Ontario because the number-crunching didn’t support a higher incentive. Other sources suggest b.c. will offer an 8% rebate, a level locals believe Ontario will adjust its credit to in time.
