Headspinner enters production on first animated series

Denis and Me with showrunner Diana Moore will launch this fall on Crave in Canada and YouTube internationally.

denis and meHeadspinner Productions and showrunner Diana Moore have headed into production on the 2D-animated shorts series Denis and Me, with the first batch of 10 episodes set to launch on the WOW! World Kids Collection on Crave in Canada and YouTube internationally in the fall.

The project was financially supported through the CMF and Shaw Rocket Fund, with Nova Scotia’s Cartoon Conrad animating the series from its studio in Beaverbank.

Created by and starring YouTube personality Denis Kopotun, who has more than 8.5 million subscribers and more than 3 billion views on his YouTube channel Denis, the series follows the exploits of Kopotun and his business cat sidekick Sir Meows A Lot.

Michelle Melanson, who launched Headspinner two years ago with husband Ken Cuperus, and Moore are executive producing and showrunning the series alongside Kopotun. Melanson was VP of production and development at Radical Sheep from 2009 until 2016, when Boat Rocker Media (BRM) acquired the kids prodco, at which point she was tapped to head up the operation. She left BRM in early 2018 to found Headspinner.

In terms of Denis and Me‘s international rollout on YouTube (Canada will be geo-blocked), Melanson told Playback Daily the team plans to rebrand one of Kopotun’s YouTube channels and launch the episodes there.

In Canada, the project had originally been tapped to be part of the launch of the Wow! Unlimited Media’s specialty network, however those plans were put on hold indefinitely last September and Wow! has not since commented on whether the plan is to go ahead with the channel launch.

In a statement, Headspinner said that all territories are currently available for sales and acquisition. In addition, a range of merchandise for Denis and Me will be available when the show launches in September.
