Atlantis Films has formed a new division with the creation of l.a.-based Atlantis Management, headed up by a well-connected entertainment lawyer and former Disney exec, Stephen Pomerantz.
Pomerantz says the division already reps about 20 clients made up of actors, directors, writers and producers. Though talent management companies often turn to producing, Pomerantz says Atlantis’ broad expertise and experience in the entertainment business as a producer and distributor position it well to serve clients’ needs.
‘Our feeling is that to operate a successful management company requires knowledge of all aspects of the business – from development, to business affairs, to production, to publicity – and between myself and Atlantis I feel we have that,’ says Pomerantz, a bilingual ex-pat Canadian.
As to the Atlantis Canadian connection, Pomerantz comments, ‘Our goal is to manage the best talent regardless of nationality. Obviously we have a lot of relationships with Canadian talent, so we’ll have a mixture of Canadian and international talent.
‘In Hollywood, there can be a tendency to focus on what’s happening here,’ says Pomerantz. ‘One of the things that we feel we bring to the table is being on both sides of the border and having offices around the world, so we feel that our global history and presence gives us a wider perspective.’
Before negotiating deals for Disney, Pomerantz was an entertainment attorney with Lavely & Singer Professional Corporation, where he was involved in repping such clients as Sylvester Stallone, Michael Jackson, John Travolta, Prince and Stephen J. Cannell Productions.
