OMNI bows Mandarin drama

The OMNI stations will next week debut a 20-part Mandarin-language series, a rare cross-Pacific copro by Toronto production house Goldspin and China’s Western Movie Group.

The one-hour drama Once Upon a Time in Toronto premieres on Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. in B.C., Alberta and Ontario, with all dialogue subtitled in Cantonese and English. The show follows a group of people in the aftermath of a car accident, featuring a multi-ethnic cast drawn from both Canada and China.

Once Upon a Time in Toronto reflects the immigrant experience in a tale that relates to people beyond borders. This work is a landmark in multilingual and multicultural television production around the world,’ Leslie Sole, CEO, television, Rogers Media, said in a press release announcing the show’s debut.
