Following on the heels of its deal with Intel, Montreal-based Discreet Logic has forged a strategic relationship with Kinetix, a maker of pc-based 3D content creation software, and has also formed a new business unit and rebranded a new media product line for content creators, designers and editors.

The agreement with San Francisco-based Kinetix is designed to create a ‘synthesis of 3D modeling and animation, 2D graphics visual effects, paint and editing software’ for digital media production, says Discreet.

Discreet’s new desktop new media line is formed from software from the company’s recent acquisitions of nt-based solutions D-Vision and Denim Software and its own Flint effects system.

The products are: Edit, formerly D-Vision, an nt-based desktop editing system; Paint, formerly Illuminaire Paint, running on Mac and Windows platforms; Light, formerly Lightscape; Effect on O2, formerly Flint, as well as Effect on Mac and Windows platforms, formerly Illuminaire Composition 3D compositing, effects and animation software.

The first initiative of the Kinetix deal, the integration of Kinetix 3D Studio Max modeling and animation software with Discreet’s Paint and Effect, will be unveiled at nab this month.
