Intergraph Computer Systems, working in conjunction with software maker Kinetix, has taken up residence in the TOPIX/Mad Dog building in Toronto where it will set up an industry resource center this month for training and educational development.

The resource space will feature Kinetix 3D Studio Max, 3D Studio viz and Character Studio software as well as Intergraph’s ViZfx Max and RenderGL Max running on six nt-based graphics workstations.

The hardware will be updated about every 90 days to keep the offerings up-to-the-minute for the demos and training initiatives conducted out of the center.

t/md will oversee and have full access to the equipment used in the facility and the gear that rotates out of it.

Vancouver’s Rainmaker Digital Pictures has added a second DVDMaestro authoring system from Spruce Technologies.

Rainmaker has been developing dvd expertise over the past two years and has undertaken numerous dvd projects. The company uses dvdmaestro in both its Vancouver and l.a. locations.

– All Eyes on Henry

Eyes Post celebrated the opening of its new Henry suite with an end-of-June bash. Party-goers mulled around the martini and sushi bars set up in the post house’s big, bright solarium and wandered in to check out the new piece of software and take a load off on the suite’s large yellow leather couch.

Eyes president Izhak Hinitz snapped photos of his guests while a roving magician entertained.

Waterloo, Ont.-based broadcast and post gear maker Inscriber Technology has appointed Bruce Goodchild as director, system products, broadcast systems division.

Goodchild had previously been with Toronto’s Forefront Graphics for eight years.

In his new post, Goodchild will supervise hardware product development, manage the Canadian dealer channel, build the company’s training service, and participate in sales and support efforts worldwide.

Nevada networking and storage gear maker MountainGate has appointed Dan Mancinelli as its new vp sales. A 25-year veteran of the computer and data storage game, Mancinelli previously held posts at ibm, Amdahl and igt.

MountainGate recently completed financial agreements with outstanding shareholders to make the company completely independent and employee-owned.

Montreal-based companies Cinar Films and Micro-Intel picked up best multimedia production honors at the recent OCTAS Awards in Montreal for the interactive production of La Maison de Ouimzie (Wimzie’s House). The OCTAS Awards recognize information technology achievers in Quebec.

Micro-Intel is a developer of multilingual multimedia products in education, training and ‘intelligent entertainment.’ In cooperation with animation house Cinar, the company developed two educational multimedia cd-roms inspired by Cinar’s popular Wimzie’s House kids’ tv series .

– Other awards

Ottawa-based new media, broadcast film and video production company Pixel Voodoo Interactive Studio won first place in the Internet category at the 1998 Ad and Sales Association Awards held in Ottawa recently. The company scored its win for the design of its Website (www.bsl.com/voodoo).

The shop also won an Award of Excellence in new media category for the self-promo cd-rom it designed for parent company, Banfield Seguin.

Beaverton, Oregon-based Tektronix took home an Engineering Emmy from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at the organization’s engineering awards last month in Beverly Hills.

Tektronix was recognized for the digital editing technology used in the Lightworks Heavyworks multistream editing system.
