Elevation pacts with STX Entertainment

The deal sees Elevation solidify its partnership with STX, after the Toronto-based distributor handled the theatrical releases of Hustlers and The Upside last year.

Elevation Pictures, Black Bear Pictures and STX Entertainment have unveiled a multi-faceted partnership through which Elevation will handle Canadian distribution on all STX titles.

Unveiled at the Berlin Film Festival, the deal will see U.S.-based STXinternational sell and distribute all Black Bear Pictures’ productions in the international market, while Elevation will handle the domestic release of STX’s production and distribution slate.

The deal sees Elevation solidify its partnership with STX, after the Toronto-based distribution company handled the Canadian theatrical release of Hustlers (pictured) and The Upside last year.

Hustlers, released in the fall, took in the region of $10 million at the Canadian box office, while The Upside, released in January 2019, racked up around $5 million.

In a statement, Elevation’s Laurie May and Noah Segal said the films from STX’s slate “have been and will continue to be a key aspect of our slate.”

Over the years, Elevation has inked a number of other output deals and partnerships with companies such as Bold Films and Bleecker Street. Outside of its distribution business, Elevation has also shifted into production in recent years, with credits including Canada/Ireland copro The Nest starring Jude Law and Carrie Coon and Canadian/Ireland copro French Exit starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Lucas Hedges acquired by Sony.
