The 7th annual Moving Pictures Festival of Dance on Film and Video has announced highlights of this year’s program, taking place in Toronto Oct. 15-18.

The festival will open at Jackman Hall in the Art Gallery of Ontario with the world premiere of Karen Kain: Dancing in the Moment. Produced and written for the cbc by Veronica Tennant and directed by Joan Tosoni, the one-hour special celebrates ballerina Kain’s career and includes footage from her last performance with the National Ballet of Canada.

Moving Pictures will also include the North American premiere of the documentary Flamenco Women, directed by Leaving Las Vegas helmer Mike Figgis.

Other international selections include The Changing Room, directed by Alyson Bell of Australia, and the French compilation series Une danse, le temps, d’une chanson.

After the Toronto screenings, Moving Pictures will tour various cities including Halifax, Ottawa, Peterborough, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver.
