News Brief: CHUM scores 3.5 million subs for M3

CHUM Television’s yet-to-be-launched adult contemporary music video service MuchMoreMusic has secured carriage agreements with cable systems representing 3.5 million homes.

M3 will launch on Sept. 30 on heavyweight Rogers Cablesystems, Cable Atlantic, Videotron’s Edmonton service area, dth provider Star Choice and on the smaller and independent operators represented by the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance.

chum still has two other licensed-but-unlaunched specialty services, Star: The Entertainment Information Channel and Canadian Learning Television.

In other chum news, citing responsibility, Citytv has decided to delay its launch of The Howard Stern Show. It was originally scheduled to premier Saturday, Aug. 22 at midnight.

‘We know it will be controversial, and we aren’t shying away from that,’ says Jay Switzer, City’s vp, programming, ‘but at the same time we want to be responsible and not put a show on the air blind. Until we know when the satellite feed is in the evening, and what the show looks like, we’ll just wait a week or two.’

City will announce a new start date soon, but Ontario viewers don’t have to wait to see the show. It’s running on wutv, the Fox station out of Buffalo.
