NFB rolls out iPhone app

The National Film Board has joined the iPhone craze by releasing its first application, putting hundreds of documentaries, animated films and trailers on the popular mobile devices.

The application, which launched Tuesday, allows free full viewing of films streamed over WiFi, 3G and EDGE wireless networks.

Among the features of the app: users can preload a film on their iPhone to view at a later time, even without a network connection. The app also has a search feature, whereby users can rummage through the entire collection of NFB films online.

The move follows CBC’s migration to iPhones in August when it launched its first free app for radio, putting audio from its radio outlets and main network on the devices.
