Telefilm invests $50M

Montreal: Telefilm Canada reports investments of just over $50 million in 102 new television, feature film and multimedia projects for the period July 1 to Sept. 30.

Most of the funding came from two programs, including 80 Canadian Television Fund Equity Investment Program projects, which received $37.8 million, and 10 eip feature film projects, which received $10.8 million. Five multimedia projects received $215,200.

Ontario totals were $18.9 million in 24 projects including the cbc drama Small Ambrose (Sullivan Entertainment), the cbc miniseries Anne of Green Gables – Continuing Story (Sullivan), the cbc family drama Wind at My Back (Sullivan), Black Harbour (Three Sheets/ Fogbound Films), the ctv drama series Flesh and Blood (Sarrazin Couture) and the ctv miniseries The David Milgaard Story (Lost Time Productions/Barna Alper Productions).

Also receiving funding were the ytv kids’ series Panda Bear and Rufus the Dog (Radical Sheep), Scattering of Seeds (White Pine Pictures), a doc series licensed by History Television, tvontario, Vision tv, scn, rdi and Knowledge Network, and the tfo drama series Histoire Max (Productions R. Charbonneau).

Western Canada’s total was $13 million in 33 projects including the ytv/mtn youth drama The Adventures of Shirley Holmes, the Life tv, bbs, Knowledge, scn and Access doc series Champions of the Wild (Omni Film), the bbs/ctv drama Cold Squad (Keatley MacLeod/Atlantis Films), the ctv doc Curious George (David Paperny Films), The Canadians (Great North), the children’s series Incredible Story Studio and the cbc drama In the Blue Ground (Alberta Filmworks);

The Atlantic region’s total was $4.7 million in eight projects including Emily of New Moon (Salter Street/Cinar Films), the Vision tv doc/miniseries The Prince and the Grail (R. Hutt & Associates), the Teletoon series The True Meaning of Crumbfest (Cellar Door/Catalyst), and the tfo variety series Boites a chansons d’aujourd’hui (Mediatique/Connections/Resources).

Quebec funding was $13.3 million in 37 projects including the new Tele-Quebec kiddies series Cornemuse (Telefiction), the social doc Culture sans tous ses etats (Synercom Teleproductions), the doc series Rainmakers (Adobe International), the new Tele-Quebec children’s series Macaroni tout garni (Publi-Vision), the award-winning Canal Famille preschool series Pin-Pon (Telefiction), the primetime teleroman Radio (Avanti Cine Video) and the ytv youth sitcom adaptation Radio Active (Telefiction).
