Montreal: Yet another Max Films feature, this time Denis Villeneuve’s Un 32 Aout sur terre, has been selected as the Canadian nominee for best foreign-language Oscar.
Canada’s hopes for a nomination in the best foreign-language film category now rest with the film.
Canadian English-language productions are not eligible for the best foreign film prize.
Villeneuve’s film was showcased in Cannes, at the Toronto International Film Festival, at Namur in Belgium where it won the best film in competition prize, at Telluride and at the Saint-Jean de Luz in France where it won the best director award.
The film is the third feature in the past three years from Max producer Roger Frappier selected to represent Canada at the Oscars. The ’97 nominee was Sous-Sol and last year’s entry was Cosmos.
