* Peter Classon has been named president and ceo of WIC Western International Communications. Classon succeeds Thomas Peddie effective Feb. 15.
Classon is currently a member of wic’s board of directors as well as president of Petryn Holdings. In the past Classon, was president and ceo of the BC Lions Football Club.
Peddie will remain on wic’s board of directors.
Assets of wic are currently being carved up by cobuyers Shaw Communications and CanWest Global.
* Charlotte Bell has taken on the responsibilities of director of public relations and regulatory affairs at Global Television. Bell will now be responsible for developing relationships with the public sector, as well as media and consumer groups.
* Diane Dube has been appointed vp and director of operations at the Montreal office of The Completion Guarantors. Dube was recently vp and head of the entertainment group at the Banque National de Paris, also in Montreal.
* Jacqueline Dinsmore has been named Quebec film commissioner responsible for Bureau d’accueil des producteurs etrangers au Quebec, the provincial film office. Dinsmore’s duties include promotion coordination in foreign markets with existing commissions in Montreal, Quebec City and suburban Argentueil, and with the technical service group, Initiative Quebec.
* Mario Doucet, formerly executive vp at Montreal digital effects producer Voodoo Arts, has been named president of the company. Management at Voodoo includes creative producer and founder Richard Ostiguy and VP Barry Bittle.
* Hugh McClelland has been promoted to vp of production at Vancouver’s Milestone Productions. McClelland joined Milestone in April 1998 and is now developing new productions for the company as well as overseeing post-production on the series Nothing Too Good For a Cowboy, which airs on cbc.
* Radio-Canada has named sodec executive Suzanne Laverdiere to the post of director, exterior productions and feature films. Laverdiere’s responsibilities include program acquisition, evaluation and development of feature films, and relations with independent producers and funding agencies. She reports to Daniel Gourd, src’s director-general, programming.
Laverdiere headed sodec’s film and tv department since 1995 and replaces Johanne Brunet, the new programming head at TV5.
Laverdiere’s appointment is effective June 1.
