Rave, Aviator form partnership

Toronto’s Rave Films and Vancouver’s Aviator Pictures have joined forces and will be representing each other’s rosters.

The new relationship means Rave will be repping Aviator’s directors in Eastern Canada while Aviator does the same on the West Coast.

Ken Eggett, executive producer at Rave, says the shop’s new roster represents a diversified group of directors including industry vet Bill Irish, Wade Ferley and Stephen Scott.

New on the roster at Aviator are Steve Cosens and Keith Behrman, who work as a team under the name Rudy Hawk. The team had been directing music videos under the Toolshed banner (Aviator’s music video division) and will now be repped by Aviator for commercials.

*Avion gets Hungry

Avion Films has signed a representation deal with New York’s Hungry Man. Avion had been working for some time with the high-profile shop, known recently for its comedic work for espn, and has now made the relationship official.

*Can I have some vinegar with that?

Three well-known commercial production types are the forces behind a new tv series in early development in Toronto. The show is Fish n’ Chicks and it brings together Karen Silver, Susie Neill and Generator’s Mike Cooper acting together as executive producers on the project.

The series will be a fishing show, but as the name implies, there will be no bass-master bellies here. The show will be hosted by what the producers envision as a ‘sexy yet intelligent woman’ who knows her snapper from her widemouth.

The hostess will go fish and talk fish and lots of other things with celebrity guests as well as engaging in girl talk, visiting night clubs around fishing holes and other activities. Entertainment will be a big part of the show, not just ‘what lure am I using,’ says Cooper.

After being pitched the idea, Cooper searched the desired name for the show, only to find, coincidentally, that Silver had owned the rights to Fish n’ Chicks for several years. Thus the partnership was formed.

Casting for the fishmistress got underway at the Sportman’s Show in Toronto recently. Cooper says an agent is shopping the series in l.a. and he will seek sponsorship for the show through the agency world.

*Hollywood calling?

Word has it that meat-man David McNally may have the opportunity to sink his teeth into a Hollywood feature: his Super Bowl spot for Bud seems to have garnered much attention south of the border.

*Industry beefs up roster

Industry Films has inked a deal with l.a.-based, bicoastal hkm, New York-based bicoastal prodco The Directors Bureau and New York’s Compulsive to represent their rosters in the Canadian market.

hkm’s roster includes Jordan Brady, Graham Henman, Michael Kabelnikoff, Noam Murro, Michael Patrick Jann and Richard Spears.

From The Directors Bureau is Roman Coppola and Mike Mills, and joining through Compulsive are Brendan Donovan, Jorgen Loof, Charlie Carlson and John Danza Jr.

New to the Industry roster are Cannes winner Randy Hackett, director/dop Tony Ober and John Adams.

*About town

George D’Amato, formerly at Maxx Productions, has joined the roster at The Partners’ Film Company.

Wendy Linton of the now-defunct Daily Post has joined Smash Editorial as senior editor.

The Players Film Company director Javier won the Juno Award for best music video for the David Usher song Forestfire. This is the second year in a row Javier has won the award.

The Post Group will be adding a big shiny machine to its gear configuration in the form of a Quantel Domino. The high-end box allows film resolution effects.
