*Supply and demand

B.C. filmmakers should brace for bad news from funding agency British Columbia Film. With the March 1 deadline for applications come and gone, the tallies are in.

B.C. Film received 80 requests for production funding totaling $9.65 million: 41 documentaries and broadcast singles, 17 features films and mows, and 22 tv series.

While the applications are still being vetted for their eligibility, the requests are more than three times greater than the monies the funder expects to have available for production and development in 1999. Also, the provincial budget has not been unveiled (it’s due by month end) and with it news about how deeply B.C. Film’s budget will be cut.

*Salter CFO exits

Halifax-based Salter Street Films’ chief financial officer, Bryant Deveaux, has resigned after six years at the company.

Deveaux will step down mid-April to pursue opportunities outside of the entertainment field.
