Vancouver: Voyageur Film Capital has bought 100% of Cadence Entertainment, producer of the features Rupert’s Land, Kitchen Party and Tail Lights Fade.
The $2.8-million deal – comprising a $700,000 payment up front, debt repayment and future cash installments based on financial performance – means that Cadence will become a division of Voyageur and remain intact.
Producers Scott Kennedy and Bill Thumm, for instance, will stay with Cadence and Kennedy will join Voyageur’s board of directors.
‘They are an incredible team,’ says Shelley Kirk, a Voyageur principal.
‘They know what they are doing. We have a like vision. This was a way for Cadence to raise additional funding for its features.’
In 1999, Cadence plans to shoot the features Shiney’s Head and Arousal.
The purchase is subject to regulatory approvals.
Both Voyageur, which trades on the Alberta Stock Exchange in the $0.50 range, and Cadence are Vancouver-based companies. Voyageur also owns Cambridge Films, a pending joint venture with Vancouver’s Shavick Entertainment.
