Mimosa opens with Turtle Island

Montreal: Montreal-based children’s producers Henri Desclez and Norma Denys have formed Mimosa Productions, a children’s program producer in the La Fete Group. As a member in La Fete, producer of the Tales for All feature series and the new Barnum miniseries on Showtime, all Mimosa product is distributed by affiliate Mediamax International.

Denys says Mimosa will operate as a creative and development boutique producing exclusively for kids in animation, multimedia, puppet and live-action formats.

Mimosa, the name of a flower from Southern France, has several new projects in development and is currently in preproduction on the revived 26 half-hour animation series Turtle Island, presold to Canal Famille in French-speaking Canada and Germany’s Ravensburger. Delivery on the $11-million series begins in September.

Turtle Island is a swashbuckling adventure with a slightly wacky twist set on a tropical South Seas island.

Desclez’s best-known international titles include Iris the Happy Professor, sold by Mediamax in 20 countries, and the 3D/puppet series Little Star, sold worldwide by Discovery Communications.

Last year, Denys and Egmont/Nordisk Film & tv of Denmark coproduced the $5-million preschool puppet series St. Bear’s Dolls Hospital. Winchester Television in the u.k. is expected to make a major market sale announcement by this year’s mip-tv, says Denys.

La Fete/Mediamax are distributing the complete Desclez catalogue as well as new Mimosa products.
