AMC restructures Studios operations, David Madden exits

The U.S. company is merging its Studios operation with its Entertainment Networks group.

AMC Networks is merging its Studios operation with its Entertainment Networks group, helmed by the president Sarah Barnett, the company revealed Wednesday.

David Madden (pictured), president of programming for the Entertainment Networks Group and AMC Studios, will step down later this month. Madden, formerly Fox Entertainment president, was appointed to the position in 2017.

“I’m proud of the work the programming team and I have done growing and nurturing our existing shows,” Madden said in a statement. “I’m ready to move on and focus on new opportunities in the rapidly expanding content space, leaving the current programming and studio operations in good hands and positioned well for the future.”

Barnett, formerly the president and general manager at BBC America, was promoted to president of the Entertainment Networks group in 2018, which comprises AMC, BBC America, SundanceTV, IFC and AMC Premiere.

“We are already seeing the benefits of our entertainment networks working more closely together – the next logical strategic step is to integrate AMC Studios into this same group, so that the people making our celebrated series are more closely coordinated with the marketing, scheduling and publicity teams who connect our shows to passionate fans,” Barnett added.
