Imported, Partners’grow further apart

The Partners’ Film Company and Imported Artists have loosened their ties further by ceasing their equipment dealings. Partners’ equipment and service companies, including Affiliated Equipment, will no longer supply Imported, which henceforth will be supplied by William F. White.

White will supply Imported’s commercial business as well as director Richard D’Alessio’s feature film and documentary initiatives through Clarence Square Pictures. D’Alessio et al are currently at the editing stage on two docs and are gearing up for the features (See At Press Time, p. 1.)

* Of Lizards and Blueberries

Chameleon has spawned two new Toronto post-production shops, Blue Lizard Productions, headed up by Andy Attalai, and Blueberry Canoe, with Leo Zaharatos at the helm.

The new companies, which opened officially May 1, are operating totally independently of Chameleon although they share the same John Street address.

Ross Briggs remains at Chameleon with Brian Wells and executive producer Sophie Foote.

Joanna Vanlint is exec producing for the new entities and says this is basically an ‘internal reorganization’ which will give both editors more freedom to ‘dabble in longer format.’

* Parrott honored

Among the eight women who will be recognized at the 19th Annual YWCA Women of Distinction Awards on May 20 will be MacLaren McCann senior vp director creative and broadcast services, Stay Alert…Stay Safe founder and Bereaved Families of Ontario activist Lesley Parrott. Parrott will receive the honor in the category of communications and community service, two of her specialties.

The Women of Distinction gala is a major awareness- and fund-raising event, raising over $200,000 each year for ywca programs for women and girls.

Tickets and further info can be had by calling (416) 961-8100.

And another thing. . .

As demonstrated by her own actions as well as her unflagging belief in and general enthusiasm for people, Lesley is continually proving that popular conception is wrong and that the ad industry is indeed populated with thinking, feeling people capable of considerable amounts of friendship, support and strength.

Parrott issued a huge verbal hug to the industry recently, doling out heartfelt thanks for the support she received from not only her agency comrades but the industry as a whole through the very public and very difficult trial that closed a 13-year chapter in the life of her family.

There’s an iron will behind the Lesley attitude, but if you ask her, she’ll also attribute it to the industry folk who have lent all manner of support throughout. Some of those people – the MacLaren McCann bunch – were recently responsible for sending the Parrotts away on a much-deserved furlough to a tropical destination.
