Diggstown back in session for season two

Creator Floyd Kane returns as showrunner, with six new episodes set to premiere on CBC in winter 2020.

Cameras are rolling in Halifax on season two of Diggstown.

The six x 60-minute legal drama is produced by Circle Blue Entertainment, Freddie Films, and Waterstar Entertainment for CBC. The pubcaster announced the series renewal during its upfront presentation in May, which is set to premiere in winter 2020.

The series stars Vinessa Antoine (Being Erica) as Marcie Diggs, a lawyer who works in Halifax’s legal aid system to help at-risk citizens in a biased legal justice system.

Creator Floyd Kane will return to serve as showrunner and executive producer under his Freddie Films banner. Also serving as executive producers are Circle Entertainment’s Amos Adetuyi (Jean of the Jones) and Waterstar Entertainment’s Karen Wentzell (Seed), Brenda Greenberg (Being Erica) and Todd Berger (Wynonna Earp).

Directors Kelly Makin (Mary Kills People), Cory Bowles (Pure) and Lynne Stopkewich (Reign) are slated to return, alongside new director Sharon Lewis (Brown Girl Begins). Joining Kane in the writers’ room are returning writers Lynn Coady (Unspeakable), Ellen Vanstone (Departure) and Priscilla M. White (Killjoys), as well as new writer Lisa Codrington (Little Dog) and showrunner assistant Caleigh Bacchus.

Returning cast members alongside Antoine are Natasha Henstridge (Species), Stacey Farber (Saving Hope), C. David Johnson (Street Legal), Brandon Oakes (Arctic Air), and Shailene Garnett (Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments).

A two-week paid internship will also be available to four interns during the filming of season two. The program was created in partnership with Screen Nova Scotia and the Halifax Black Film Festival (HBFF), with interns coming from the HBFF Youth & Diversity Program.
