The Promax Awards, held June 12, capped off the Promax/bda show held this month in San Francisco.
Canadian gold winners included Rogers Cablesystems, which took home awards for its ‘Pumpkin Patrol’ animated promo (special project) and for ‘VIP Program – Woman’ (consumer promotion). ‘VIP Program – Man’ won silver in the same category.
‘Pumpkin Patrol’ was created in-house. ‘vip’ was created by Toronto’s Garneau Wurstlin Philp, edited by Bullet Digital Post’s Joel Zigler and produced by Rogers in-house.
Rogers also won silver for ‘OHL Hockey’ in the category of local/regional announcement.
bctv’s ‘If It Matters 98’ won gold for best news promotion as well as in the print category and silver in tv campaign – news. The station also scored silver in the tv campaign – sports category for ‘Canucks Combo.’
chek-tv won gold in promotional animation for ‘Dave’s World’ and in seasonal promotion for ‘Santa Hits the Roof.’
cict-Calgary 7 Television’s ‘Surf Less’ won gold in print and in-house campaign and silver in print-programming/image/news and in outdoor. The station won silver in promotional animation for ‘Prime Time Pays’ and for in-house, more than one medium campaign for ‘Salute to Seinfeld.’
Vancouver Television took home gold in the promotional animation category for ‘Thursday Movie Opening’ and silver in the category of in-house event tv announcement for its ‘AIDS Walk 98’ psa.
MuchMusic won a silver for in-house programming announcement for its MuchMusic Video Awards promo and for in-house special event/project for ‘Citytv Traditional New Year’s Eve.’
Global Television took silver in the in-house news promotion category for ‘Global News – Cape Breton.’
The BDA Awards, held June 10 at the show, yielded the following Canadian winners:

Radio-Canada won silver in print for ‘La Radio Des Festivals De Musique.’
MuchMusic won silver in print for its MuchMusic Video Awards logo.
And Toronto’s Soho Post & Graphics took bronze in the bound piece category for its Soho Handbook, while Toronto’s TOPIX/Mad Dog won bronze in the music video or short subject category for the Sloan Money City Maniacs video.
