Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the U.S. rights to the Serendipity Point Films coproduction The Song of Names. It is slated for release later this year.

Serendipity Point’s Robert Lantos serves as a producer on the film alongside Montreal-based Lyla Films’ Lyse Lafontaine and U.K. prodco Feel Films’ Nick Hirschkorn. It went into production in London in September 2018, with additional location shoots in Montreal, Budapest, New York and Treblinka, Poland.

Directed by François Girard (The Red Violin) and written by Jeffrey Caine (The Constant Gardner), the film follows the mystery of a missing violin player, spanning 50 years and two continents. It is based on the novel of the same name by Norman Lebrecht and stars Tim Roth (The Hateful Eight) and Clive Owen (Children of Men). It also features an original score by Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings).

Elevation Pictures holds the Canadian distribution rights to the film. HanWay films is handling worldwide sales. The Song of Names is produced in association with Ingenious Media and Proton Cinema and in participation of Telefilm, SODEC, Bell Media, CBC, CMF and Ontario Creates.
