The National Film Board presented a $5,000 scholarship to the National Screen Institute-Canada at a Nov. 4 opening reception for the Global Visions Festival in Edmonton.
The scholarship will support students learning about film and video production through the nsi’s Movie Camp program, which offers teens the opportunity to work side-by-side with a variety of industry professionals to learn about all aspects of filmmaking and to produce their own videos.
The scholarship to the nsi is one of three presented by Sandra Macdonald, government film commissioner of the nfb. Earlier this summer, the nfb presented a $5,000 scholarship to Louise Spickler, exec director of the Institut national de l’image et du son in Montreal. During the Toronto International Film Festival in September, the agency gave a similar scholarship to Canadian Film Centre exec director Wayne Clarkson.
These scholarships stem from a $10,000 gift from a retired employee of the nfb, to which the nfb added $5,000 of its own.
