Montreal: Movie producer Roger Frappier has been awarded the 1999 Prix Albert Tessier, the annual Quebec government award for career achievement in cinema.
Frappier is the president of Max Films, a Montreal film and tv production company. He is a former documentary director and head of drama at the National Film Board’s French Program.
Frappier’s filmography includes Denys Arcand’s Declin de l’empire americain and Jesus de Montreal, Genie Award winners for best motion picture and major international box-office successes; and Arcand’s first English-language feature, Love and Human Remains.
More recent credits include Cosmos, a feature anthology from six young directors; Pierre Gang’s Sous-Sol; Manon Briand’s 2 Secondes; Denis Villeneuve’s Un 32 Aout sur Terre; Maelstrom; and the new Gabriel Pelletier comedy, La Vie apres l’Amour.
Frappier is one of the founders of inis, Quebec’s advanced film school, and is the chairman of the Prix Jutra, the Quebec feature film awards.
The Prix Albert-Tessier includes a $30,000 cash prize.
