Global Television Network rolled out its website in Toronto and Ottawa this week.
Through the site, www.Globaltv.com, audiences can access fast-breaking local news, business, sports, politics, weather and entertainment 24 hours a day.
Aligned with Minneapolis-based Internet Broadcasting Systems, an Internet service provider of which CanWest Global owns 20% (since September), the broadcaster is in the process of building a national multimedia network of local Global tv stations and website services.
Its goal is to build local news websites that will capture new Web audiences, build its tv audience and access new revenue.
There will be some programming streaming onto the site, but only in small clips and where it is called for, says Gary Maavara, vp and gm, Global Television New Media.
