Hot Docs’ first Toronto Documentary Forum, which offers 36 pitching slots, has been swamped by more than 100 entries.
To be held May 3-4, the forum is modeled after, and presented in cooperation with, the FORUM for Co-Financing of Documentaries in Amsterdam.
‘There is clearly a desire for a market event this side of the Atlantic devoted to the social, cultural and political documentary genre from both sides of the buyer-seller equation,’ says tdf director Michaelle McLean.
Entries for the tdf have come from Europe, the u.s., Australia, Iceland, Russia, Argentina, South Africa and across Canada. Decisions will be announced March 22.
In other Hot Docs news, Chris Haws of Discovery International in the u.s., Sabine Bubeck of zdf-arte in Germany and Peter Flemington of Vision tv are the newest additions to festival’s international advisory council, bringing its total membership to 25.
