Indiecan Entertainment has snagged the worldwide rights to Cat Hostick’s feature debut, The Meaning of Life.
Written and directed by Hostick, the drama follows a starving musician (played by Canadian singer Tyler Shaw) who gets a job as a therapeutic hospital clown. While there, he works with a nine-year-old leukemia patient, helping her to push past her illness through the power of music. The Meaning of Life marks Shaw’s first role in a feature film.
Produced by Hostick’s North Film Co. and Rona Chavez-Leon, the film is expected to receive a fall theatrical and digital release. Indiecan’s Avi Federgreen told Playback Daily that he hopes The Meaning of Life will also receive a broadcast and airline release.
The Oakville, ON-shot feature made its world premiere at the Dances with Films festival in Hollywood in 2017. The drama later made its Canadian debut at the Willson Oakville Film Festival, where it won the audience choice award for best feature film or documentary.
In addition to Shaw, The Meaning of Life stars Hostick, Sadie Monroe, Sergio Di Zio, Jean Yoon, Jake Raymond, Krista Morin, Dan Lett and John Boylan.
This most recent pickup comes six weeks after Indiecan revealed it had acquired the Canadian distribution rights to F*** You All: The Uwe Boll Story, a documentary about filmmaker Uwe Boll.
