Jim Sward, president and ceo of Global Communications since 1993, will be leaving the company when his contract expires Aug. 31.
While he is forbidden to discuss his future plans or why he is leaving, Sward will remain in his position until May 1, at which time long-standing Global exec Gerry Noble will replace him.
‘We are saddened that Jim Sward has decided to pursue other endeavors. His contribution to our company has been immense. Global Television profits tripled under his leadership,’ said CanWest Global president and ceo Leonard Asper in a statement.
In the interim, Sward says he will assist in the transition.
Noble has been with CanWest since 1985 and was most recently based in Australia where he was the top exec responsible for the company’s holdings in Australia and New Zealand. There’s been no word yet on who will replace Noble.
Global Communications is responsible for all of CanWest’s media operations.
