YTV has been granted permission from the crtc to gear its programming to an older teen audience after 9 p.m., given that the channel’s target audience of six to 11 year olds tends be in bed after that time.
In renewing ytv’s licence for the next seven years, until 2006, the crtc issued an amendment to a condition that required the cable channel to include a protagonist under the age of 18 in all drama programs broadcast between 6 p.m. and midnight.
The new amendment allows ytv to develop a programming block for teens, provided it is aimed at a youth audience.
ytv is available in more than eight million homes throughout Canada, with roughly 70% of its primetime schedule dedicated to Canadian shows.
