Coroner to go global with NBCU International

serinda - coronerNBCUniversal International Networks has acquired the rights to air Coroner around the world.

Produced by Montreal’s Muse Entertainment, Toronto’s Back Alley Films and Cineflix Studios, the 8 x 60-min series was commissioned by CBC and is now is set to air in Germany, the U.K., France, Poland, Africa, Latin America, Brazil and Spain from late 2019.

The drama, created by showrunner and exec producer Morwyn Brebner (Saving Hope), was first announced during CBC’s Upfront and is inspired by M.R. Hall’s book series. Coroner is set to premiere on the pubcaster in winter 2019.

The show follows a recently widowed coroner (played by Serinda Swan, pictured) who investigates suspicious deaths in Toronto. Production on the series started in Toronto this August.

Exec producers include Back Alley’s Adrienne Mitchell (Bellevue), Muse Entertainment’s Jonas Prupas (Collision Course) and Peter Emerson and Brett Burlock from Cineflix Studios. In addition, Mitchell serves as Coroner‘s lead director.

The upcoming CBC show’s cast includes Roger Cross (Dark Matter), Eric Bruneau (Blue Moon), Ehren Kassam (Degrassi: Next Class), Tamara Podemski (Rabbit Fall), Alli Chung (Dark Matter), Lovell Adams-Gray (Second Jen) and Saad Siddiqui (Taken).

Muse and Back Alley also recently had modest success with their Anna Paquin starrer Bellevue, which aired on CBC for one season and although it was not renewed, it was picked up by WGN in the U.S. for a 2018 broadcast (distributed by Muse Int’l) and other international territories (distributed by Kew Media), earning favourable reviews and an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Coroner is distributed worldwide by Cineflix Rights.
