* Randi Kirshenbaum has moved into the newly created position of senior vp, international coproductions and financing at Alliance Atlantis Television Production. Most recently Kirshenbaum was the company’s vp, business and legal affairs. Her new role will expand to include all of Alliance Atlantis’ television production activities, including dramatic and children’s series, tv movies and miniseries, and factual programming.
At Alliance Atlantis Communications, Gail Rivett has been appointed vp, marketing, television. Instrumental in building the company’s marketing initiatives, including the creation and launch of AAC Kids, Rivett is a former marketing manager at tvontario.
Pam Wilson is overseeing all of aac’s television publicity efforts worldwide as vp, publicity, television.
* Peace Arch Entertainment Group has named Kent Wingerak to the post of executive vp of Peace Arch Productions. Wingerak, a chartered accountant who was formerly vp of business affairs at WIC Entertainment, will work with domestic and international producers, distributors and telecasters and will build sales opportunities for Peace Arch, both in Canada and abroad.
* John Bailey, who has served as president of Famous Players since 1997, has been appointed the company’s new chairman and ceo.
Replacing Bailey as president and the new coo of Famous Players is Robb Chase, former president of Pizza Hut Canada.
* Johanne St-Arnauld has been appointed Telefilm Canada’s director of international relations. St-Arnauld has been serving as the agency’s interim director of international relations since March 2000.
* At tvontario, Lee Lorraine Robock has been appointed general manager and coo. Robock, a 24-year tvo employee, comes to the position from her former capacity as director of finance and administration and cfo.
* Laura Michalchyshyn, vp of programming for Showcase Television, has been appointed vice-chair of the National Screen Institute. Michalchyshyn has served on the nsi board since 1998. As chair of the institute’s programming committee and as a member of its executive, she has been instrumental in helping expand the nsi’s national training program and Local Heroes film festivals.
* Hockey Night in Canada has a new executive producer, Joel Darling. Darling, currently heading CBC Sports’ coverage of the Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, will continue his duties as the Olympics executive producer.
Darling has won two Best Live Sporting Event Gemini Awards for his work on the Olympics – in 1996 and 1998.
He served as the senior exec producer for CBC Sports from 1997 to February.
