CBC is serving up a new series this summer.

Back in Time for Dinner (6 x 60 minutes) follows one family as they prepare and eat food from different eras. Starting in the 1940s and ending in the 1990s, the “social experiment” series will follow the Mississauga, ON-based Campus family as they experience the changing family dynamics, gender roles and diets that were influenced by the social and economic realities of each decade.

Produced by Toronto’s 3Bird Media and Entertainment One, Back in Time for Dinner will premiere on the pubcaster on June 14 at 8 p.m. Based on the Warner Bros. format of the same name, the series is hosted by Carlo Rota (Little Mosque on the Prairie).

In some episodes, celebrity guests will join the Campus family for dinner. Guests include Sharon Hampson and Bram Morrison of music trio Sharon Lois and Bram, sportscaster Ron MacLean and fitness duo Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod.

“Back In Time For Dinner combines food, fashion and culture to take viewers on a journey through time, showcasing how dramatically our daily lives have changed in Canada over the past six decades,” said Sally Catto, general manager, Programming, CBC, in a statement.

Executive producers on the show are 3Bird’s Jennifer Twamley and Andrika Lawren, as well as eOne’s Jocelyn Hamilton and Vibika Bianchi.
