Danis Goulet (pictured) has joined Steve Gravestock as a programmer of Canadian features for the Toronto International Film Festival, it was announced Tuesday.

Goulet programmed Short Cuts from 2015 to 2017 and previously worked as a Short Cuts programming associate.

She joins the Canada team following the departure last year of longtime senior manager of theatrical programming and Canada film curator Magali Simard. Simard now serves as film sector development officer at the City of Toronto.

Gravestock has programmed the Canada features section since 2004. He also programs for the Philippines and Nordic region.

The festival also announced a number of other programmer changes. Taking over for Goulet as co-programmer of Short Cuts, is Lisa Haller, festival programming’s manager and shorts programmer. She’ll program the section with Jason Anderson. Haller has worked with the fest since 2010. In addition to serving as a programming associate for Short Cuts for the last three years, she’s also managed the Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Barkin, senior manager of festival programming, will serve as the TIFF Kids programmer, after managing the TIFF Kids International Film Festival for the past eight years. She’ll also continue in her role as programmer for Festival Street.

All told, TIFF’s programming team is comprised of nine men and 12 women. In a release announcing the new team members, TIFF said the organization is committed to “normalizing gender parity and equality for future generations.”

“With TIFF’s mission being to transform the way people see the world through film, we need to create an environment where people have what they need to be their best. Diversity across all levels of our Festival programming team is key to achieving that goal,” Kerri Craddock, TIFF director of programming, said in a release.

In addition, the festival unveiled its 2018 programs. The 13 programs are Contemporary World Cinema, Discovery, Gala Presentations, In Conversation With, Masters, Midnight Madness, Platform, Primetime, Short Cuts, Special Presentations, TIFF Cinematheque, TIFF Docs and Wavelengths. There are also three festival sub-programs: TIFF Kids, TIFF Next Wave and TIFF Speaker Series.

Last year TIFF announced it would reduce its festival programming by 20%, cutting its City to City and Vanguard streams.
