eOne and CBS Films have teamed up to co-finance, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, from writer/producer Guillermo del Toro.
Based on Alvin Schwartz’s book series of the same name and directed by André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe), Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark follows a group of young teens who try to solve the mystery surrounding sudden deaths in their small town. Del Toro adapted the script with Daniel and Kevin Hageman (Hotel Transylvania).
del Toro will produce the film alongside his The Shape of Water producing partner J. Miles Dale, as well as Sean Daniel, Elizabeth Grave and Jason F. Brown.
Production on the feature is expected to start in Toronto this summer.
eOne has picked up the distribution rights to the film for Canada, the U.K., Australia/New Zealand, Germany, Benelux, Spain, Austria and Switzerland. CBS Films will distribute the film in the U.S. via Lionsgate, while Sierra/Affinity will oversee sales in all remaining international territories.
Del Toro’s most recent project, The Shape of Water, took home four Oscar wins in March, including best motion picture and best achievement in directing.
