Half a dozen East Coast directors have teamed up for Hopeless Romantic, a new romcom feature filming in Halifax.

Nova Scotia-based Megan Wennberg (First Weekend) and Stephanie Clattenburg (Play Your Gender), and Newfoundland’s Deanne Foley (An Audience of Chairs), Ruth Lawrence (Talus and Scree), Martine Blue (Hunting Pignut) and Latonia Hartery (Sadie), will all step behind the camera on the anthology. The film follows 50-something Anna, who helps six different women navigate their relationships.

The film is written by Wennberg, Clattenberg, Emily Bridger, Iain MacLeod and Jay Dahl. Producers on the project are Bill Niven (The Book of Negroes), Dahl (Halloween Party) and Latonia Hartery (Crocuses). Margaret Atwood serves as a creative consultant on the project.

Hopeless Romantic stars Lynda Boyd (Republic of Doyle), Hugh Thompson (Book of Negroes), Susan Kent (This Hour Has 22 Minutes) and Amy Groening (Reign).

The Nova Scotia/Newfoundland copro received financing from Telefilm, the NS Film and Television Production Incentive Fund and the NL Film Developmetn Corporation. It films until Nov. 27, with post-production set to take place in St. John’s.

The producers are eyeing a fall 2018 release, though no distribution partners have yet been announced.
