* Telefilm Canada has announced three management appointments. Sheila de La Varende, director of the European office in Paris, has been appointed to the concurrent position of director, International Development and Promotion, formerly known as the International Relations division. She was previously acting director, International Relations.
Stephane Odesse has been appointed general counsel and Access to Information co-ordinator. A member of the Quebec Bar, he specialized in intellectual property and financing in the private sector prior to joining Telefilm Canada as legal counsel in 1994. Odesse is responsible for co-ordinating matters concerning the Access to Information Act and for directing the Legal Department.
Louise Deslauriers has been promoted to director, Feature Films Business Unit – Quebec, the position she held on an interim basis since Feb. 2002. She was a senior investment analyst with Telefilm for the past four years.
* Diane G. Dube has joined completion guarantor Globex Media Finance as cofounder, EVP and chief operating officer. Globex, in association with Insurer Global-Expert, a mid-size Montreal broker, will provide completion guarantees for films, television series, documentaries, large format movies, MOWs, animation productions and multimedia productions.
* Dana Fields, former publicist for Citytv and Pulse 24, has joined Odeon Films to manage all Odeon media relations for the release schedule. Fields replaces Andrea Grau Clunie, who has been appointed manager of media and public relations for the Toronto International Film Festival Group.
* Caroline Coutts has been named the festival director for Moving Pictures: Canadian Films on Tour. Coutts has a background in arts administration and filmmaking and was the program coordinator at Cineworks Independent Filmmakers Society in Vancouver for six years. She replaces Michael Ghent, who is producing his own projects with Make Believe Media and Screen Siren Pictures in Vancouver.
* Effective May 15, 2003, Gerry McIvor, Tom Kormylo and Dale Severyn leave the Manitoba Film & Sound board of directors to be replaced by newcomers John Harvie, a trial lawyer and partner with Myers Weinberg in Winnipeg, and Rob Macklin, representative for the Manitoba branch of ACTRA.
In late fall, Alexa Rosentreter, interim general manager/manager, film programs, begins maternity leave and Carole Vivier returns as CEO and GM. Angie Glesby, who worked at the recently defunct Credo Entertainment for eight years, will be promoted to manager, film programs.
* Doran Chandler, an entertainment and music lawyer, has joined the firm of Roberts & Stahl in Vancouver. Roberts & Stahl is also offering a new script-clearance service called The Clearance House managed by Krista Johnston.
