This past year may have been dominated by Canada 150 programming, but for British Columbia, the province’s sesquicentennial anniversary is still four years away.
The province officially entered confederation in 1871 and in honour of its upcoming 150th anniversary, B.C.-based pubcaster Knowledge Network is commissioning a four-part one-hour historical docuseries, 1871. Knowledge Network is currently on the hunt for B.C.-based production companies and executive producers who have a track record of producing large, historical projects. The series will premiere in 2021.
Murray Battle, director of original content and brand at Knowledge (pictured), told Playback Daily that the pubcaster is currently accepting letters of intent. Battle, and supervising producer Erica Landrock, will then meet with a short list of producers before selecting a prodco early in 2018.
Knowledge, which is a commercial-free broadcaster, is also looking to commission 15 half-hours, each made up of 10 three-minute short films (or, more simply, 150 shorts) around select themes. The broadcaster is seeking out short film pitches around history, art and culture for the project, called “People, Places, Things.”
The short films will air in between programming and will be repeated on the network as Knowledge Originals.
