After years of investing in 4K nature content production, Blue Ant Media channel Love Nature is doubling down on its strategy to bring 4K content to households in domestic and international markets.
The wildlife channel announced Tuesday that it is now available in 4K in Canada via Videotron (the channel was previously in HD), and is now eyeing further expansion into more international markets. Additional deals with cable carriers are set to be announced in the coming months.
The expansion is being driven by increased demand for nature/wildlife content from international buyers looking to fill their programming lineups with 4K content, said Jamie Schouela, EVP, Canadian networks, Blue Ant Media. Switching Love Nature’s Canadian channel to 4K was the next logical step for the wildlife brand and furthers Blue Ant’s commitment to owning, creating and distributing more 4K nature content worldwide, he said.
Among the programming set to roll out this summer on the brand’s Canadian channel are Love Nature originals Deadly Australia, Mysteries of the Mekong and Australia’s Hidden Islands. Other series also airing on the channel are The Big Dry, Africa’s Hunters, Tales From Zambia and Great Blue Wild.
Love Nature, a joint venture between Blue Ant and Smithsonian Networks, produces 200 hours of 4K nature and wildlife content annually and the channel most recently launched as an HD channel in Singapore through a deal with StarHub TV. Meanwhile the Love Nature 4K SVOD service last year launched in 32 countries, including the U.K., Australia, Germany, Mexico and New Zealand. The SVOD has since expanded to more than 60 countries.
