The Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund recently celebrated its fifth anniversary.
Since its inception, the fund has supported 214 new media and television projects and funneled $20.5 million into the Canadian new media and television industry.
Bell Fund-assisted projects have won awards at home and abroad including Gemini and Prix Gemeaux Awards.
To be eligible for support, projects must have a television component and a corresponding online interactive component such as a website, iTV or wireless application.
The fund’s Production Program will cover half the cost of new media projects up to $250,000, and will also cover half the Canadian broadcast licence fees up to $75,000.
One-hundred-and-four new media projects have received $15 million from the Bell Fund over the last five years, while 75 television programs received nearly $5 million over the same period.
Of the new media projects funded, 60% have been English-language and 40% French. Fifteen of the projects were bilingual.
