Mr. D heads back to the classroom

Season seven of the CBC comedy will film in Halifax until mid-August with a premiere set for the fall.

Production on the seventh season of CBC original comedy Mr. D is underway in Halifax.

The 11-episode, half-hour season is set to film until mid-August, with a premiere on the pubcaster set for  fall 2017.

Mr. D is produced by Halifax-based Topsail Productions Limited and Gerard ADHD Entertainment Inc. The show is exec produced by co-creators Gerry Dee (who also stars) and Topsail’s Michael Volpe. It’s distributed worldwide by Entertainment One Television. eOne recently inked a deal with Hulu in the U.S. for the first two seasons of the series, which are currently available on the streamer.

The series has garnered consistent (if not exactly stellar) ratings for the pubcaster in its previous six seasons. The series, which airs Tuesday nights at 9:30 p.m. as part of CBC’s comedy block, pulled in an average audience (2+) of 372,000 in its sixth season.

Season seven will see the return of series regulars including Lauren Hammersley (Orphan Black), Jonathan Torrens (Trailer Park Boys), Naomi Snieckus (Kiss and Cry) and Emma Hunter (The Beaverton). Comedian Dave Merheje (We Are Disorderly) also joins the cast as the new economics teacher. The series also stars Bette MacDonald, Darrin Rose, Wes Williams, Suresh John, Kathleen Phillips and Bill Wood.
