Steven N. Bray & Jessie Wallace

School of Animation, Arts & Design, Sheridan College, Ontario

School is very much about who you meet, as proven by the Gemini Award-winning series Departures, which features five Sheridan grads in key positions, led by producers Steven Bray, 31, and Jessie Wallace, 30. The two have launched their own distribution arm and sold the show around the world.

The one-hour program, the third season of which premieres on OLN March 6, features travelers Scott Wilson and Justin Lukach exploring remote global cultures. Wilson is also a Sheridan alum, as are cinematographer Andre Dupuis and editor Alvan Campana.

Bray is also known for festival favorite Amal, which he produced with David Miller. He continues to develop features with Richie Mehta and Shaun Mehta, Amal’s director/writer team, and is coproducing the short Lucious and Sumat with Campana. ‘I would also love to get back to the documentary genre,’ he says.

Wallace, meanwhile, is developing the dramatic dark comedy Shooting Stars, the short A Good Meal, TV series The Twin, and the fable House of Fireflies, which was conceived as a film, but, as she says, ‘I’d like to take the time that a TV series has to offer to further develop the ideas and stories these characters deserve.’

And she covers both herself and Bray when she says, ‘The future is wide open.’
