Phase 4 Films has picked up the North American rights to Finding Bliss, a rom-com starring Leelee Sobieski, Denise Richards and Jamie Kennedy.
The deal was negotiated by Larry Greenberg, Phase 4’s Los Angeles-based SVP of acquisitions, and Nick Vetere of Lightshow Entertainment. The Toronto company is planning a U.S. theatrical release for May in Los Angeles and New York, while the film will likely go directly to DVD in Canada.
Bliss, which premiered at last year’s Slamdance Film Festival, is the latest film from U.S. writer/director Julie Davis (Amy’s Orgasm, I Love You, Don’t Touch Me!), and follows an idealistic up-and-coming filmmaker who ends up as an editor on a crossover adult film. The story is loosely based on actual events in Davis’ life.
‘Davis has made a raucous, commercial comedy with heart… people will connect with Leelee’s character as she journeys through ‘extreme’ circumstances in the porn industry,’ commented Phase 4 president Berry Meyerowitz in a release.
Phase 4 also recently acquired the U.S. theatrical rights to Brigitte Berman’s documentary Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel, and handles the DVDs for Flashpoint.
