Sim Video’s sizable move

Broadcast rental house Sim Video Productions has relocated its Toronto office to a facility it says is more than three times larger than its previous digs.

The new headquarters, at 1 Atlantic Avenue, amalgamates the company’s rentals and post-production services under one roof. Renovations to the 32,000-square-foot facility are still underway and will include a high-definition theatre to allow directors of photography to screen their footage.

Sim rents various Panasonic and Sony HD cams, including the newly acquired Panasonic AJ-HDC27F and the Sony HDW-F900 24P. The shop also offers new HD cine lenses, including products from Angenieux, Fujinon and Zeiss DigiPrimes.

The new building additionally offers production offices and editing facilities to allow prodcos to set up shop as they film on location. Sim’s post gear consists of 26 editing systems and eight Avid suites. Sim recently purchased Avid Unity LANshare EX hardware to allow the Canadian Idol production to cope with storage for its extensive footage.

Company president Rob Sim says the move is beneficial because many prodcos would need both HD cameras and Avid post gear, and this way they get it all in one stop.

Sim went ahead with the expansion during the decrease in local production, but says, ‘Because we’re so diversified in the services we provide, we haven’t felt the slowdown in a significant way.’
