E1 buys three from H2O

The Waiting City

E1 Entertainment has picked up three films from H2O Motion Pictures, including a 3D redo of the Canadian-made horror The Gate.

The first picture included in the deal is The Waiting City, an Australian-made drama from director Claire McCarthy (Sisters, Skin) about a young couple waiting on the arrival of their adopted child. It played at last year’s Toronto and Pusan film festivals.

E1 also has the Canadian rights to The Gate 3D, a second take on the Canada/U.S. horror made by Alliance in 1987 about young children who find a passageway to an evil world in their backyard. (The original cast included Kelly Rowan of The O.C. and Only director/producer Ingrid Veninger.)

Lie Down with Darkness, a thriller starring Samuel L. Jackson as an ex-con trying to go straight, is the third film in the package. The deal was negotiated by H2O’s Mark Horowitz and E1’s Lara Thompson.
